She also talks about how to reinforce and reset those boundaries when they aren’t honored. - Ask if you can have some time (10 minutes) for the person to listen to you
- Set ground rules
- There are some things I need to tell you
- I’m going to tell you how I’m feeling, and I’d like for you to just listen and understand. You don’ have to do anything
- Are you willing to do this?
- Tell them what you need to say following this format:
- When you (example), I feel (share feeling)
- Follow up immediately with what you would like from them
- Would you be willing to promise me that
- You won’t use these words (examples)
- You will talk to me in private instead of publicly
- You will say this (example) instead of that (example)
- Would you be willing to promise me that
- Would you be willing to try this for me?
