Episode #4: When you’re a little effeminate kid, and you love Wonder Woman, you learn to push that down quick

TITLE

When you’re a little effeminate kid, and you love Wonder Woman, you learn to push that down quick

GUEST

Matt Marr

EPISODE OVERVIEW

Matt Marr is a therapist, actor, podcaster & activist just to name a few. Matt brings an open and refreshing view about growing up and being an effeminate kid with a lisp in the South, and the mixed messages he received. We talk about the intersection of sensitivity and being gay in terms of de-genderizing the world. Matt takes Dr. Elaine Aron’s self-test for children to see if he rates as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). This was the very FIRST interview I ever did for this podcast, and Matt was exceptionally kind and supportive as I felt my way through the interview. We talk about code switching and how it affected Matt. We talk about bullying and playing sports as a kid who wasn’t athletic and didn’t respond well to being yelled at.

BIO

If Oprah and Ellen had a baby, raised by Dolly Parton—it would be Matt Marr.  Matt aka Mattie can–and WILL–talk to anyone.  He’s the guy in the grocery store that compliments your eye makeup and then two minutes later you’re asking him for dating advice.  Originally from southern Oklahoma, Mattie has lived in Los Angeles for over twelve years.  He is a therapist and holds a Masters of Clinical Psychology, specializing in Narrative Therapy.  At the same time he is a successful commercial actor and has performed stand up all over the West Coast. In his advice podcast, THE DEAR MATTIE SHOW, Mattie along with a guest co-host, offers up humor, heart, and hopefully a helpful perspective to empower his listeners to be the authors of their own life story and work towards their dreams.  Also, he MIGHT have a Wonder Woman kitchen. Find all things Matt at www.dearmattieshow.com.
