HSPs

HSPs have amazing strengths
BECAUSE
of our sensitivity!

I want you to know that as an HSP, I’ve struggled with feeling like an imposter, not feeling good enough, and I feared that I was too much. I felt wrong for being a deep thinker, and never wanting to hurt anybody’s feelings.

It sucks feeling like something is wrong with you.

  • What’s wrong with you is actually what’s right with you!

There is power in naming what we struggle with, and then seeing the incredible strengths that correlate with the “weakness.”

  • My hope for you is that you will be empowered by the gifts of being an HSP, because there are many!

As HSPs, many of us were praised for being quiet, polite, responsive and for putting other’s needs before our own. These are wonderful qualities, but when we put everyone else’s needs first, we often have nothing left for ourselves after giving to everyone else!

  • I want to help you find the balance in your life to care and nurture your needs, so that you can be fully present for others in your life, without feeling physically drained or emotionally exhausted!

My hope for you is that you feel seen and heard, and you know that your feelings and experiences are totally normal. Together we will look at that nasty gremlin voice in your head that’s always telling you what a screw up you are, or constantly compares what you are able to do with others.

  • We will work on having you experience a sense of connection and belonging (to yourself and others).

I don’t like being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP)

My experience is that many HSPs have wounding from childhood (and they are told they are too sensitive, etc.). Research shows that HSPs who grow up in environments where their caregivers are NOT responsive or in tune with them, have higher rates of Depression and Anxiety. Once we are able to separate negative messages from childhood, and we look at where you have felt overwhelmed and overstimulated, the work gets easier. Please click here to see a video about this.

Once Highly Sensitive Persons learn they are HSPs, they often look back over their life and “re-tell” their story. Things start to make more sense and instead of feeling bad for thinking too much, they begin to value that they are deep thinkers. You then have an opportunity to “re-write” your history with a positive twist because now you have a new understanding, and you see there’s nothing wrong with you.

Many HSPs have been misdiagnosed with Depression, Anxiety, ADHD, Borderline Personality Disorder and more

It is not uncommon for practitioners who are NOT familiar with the traits of being an HSP to misdiagnose HSPs. HSPs are more sensitive to medication than non-HSPs.

Personally, I don’t like diagnosing clients. It’s more important for me to understand the behaviors and feelings you struggle with, and to try and figure out what it is you’re needing.

I don’t take a stand on whether you have a diagnosis or not, or whether you should or shouldn’t take medication. This is something that each individual needs to decide for themselves. I am happy to discuss any concerns or questions you have, but I want to be clear that I won’t advocate one way or another.
